    Position Summary:
    Initiates, implements, and enforces policies and procedures of the interscholastic athletic program. Responsible for developing long range plans to improve athletic programs in the District. Ensure programs and activities will promote an interrelationship between athletics and other programs.
    Essential Duties:
    • Works directly with principals and site athletic director regarding athletic matters.
    • Prepares the Budget of District funds to be expended on interscholastic athletics and determine personnel allocation for coaches in each sport.
    • Works with the District’s Budget and Finances administration regarding the rental of District athletic facilities to non-district organizations and standardize the administration of contest in
      District facilities.
    • Monitors District compliance of Title IX.
    • Purchases and/or repairs athletic supplies and equipment and prepares priorities of repair of athletic facilities.
    • Establishs and adheres to a regular schedule of inspection of all athletic facilities and installations to maintain and improve their safety.
    • Develops feasible programs for student athletes in the following areas:
      • Physical examinations
      • Accidental insurance
      • Transportation
      • Safety and monitoring of grades, study tables, weight training and/or conditioning,
        monitoring of attendance and disciplinary records and
      • College scholarship opportunities.
    • Acts as a District Liaison with the OSSAA and administer the insurance program
      covering school athletes, and assume responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
    • Implements the OSSAA’s policies in secondary schools and approval of the student eligibility lists from all schools.
    • Monitors student athlete recruiting within the District.
    • Assists the building athletic staff in developing master athletic schedules and special events.
    • Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and related staff members.
    • Coordinates the hiring of officials: team physician, police officers, as required and assume general
      responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
    • Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the District.
    • Fosters good school/community relations by working with booster organizations and keeping the
      community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
    • Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of
      athletic activities.
    • Leads in-service workshops and demonstrations with respect to instructional techniques, and
      fundamental principles of wide variety of physical activities.
    • Assists with scheduling and coordinating venues for large district wide events such as graduations and professional development.
    • Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing
      responsibilities of other members of the department/division during peak periods or when there is
      an overload of duties or fill in when an individual is away from the workstation
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • To ensure continuity of services, alternative work site may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for alternative work site will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for alternative work site will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
    Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
    • Ten (10) years’ related leadership experience.
    • Current State of Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.
    • Three (3) years experience as an athletic director, or head coach, or assistant coach.
    • Knowledge of the organization, rules, and regulations of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA).
    Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
    • Administrative or supervisor experience.
    **Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore, for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
    Physical/Mental Requirements:
    • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
    • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
    • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds.
    • Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
    • May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
    Work Environment:
    • Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
    Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools
    FSLA Status: Exempt
    Compensation: 903 (Salary determined by experience.)
